These clients were renovating an old character home in a leafy coastal suburb and wanted a colourful, interesting garden with some productive elements. The whole garden was designed and is now implemented including planting around the pool, a central courtyard and citrus and vegetables at the back.
Several concepts were proposed for the front garden, with this simple tiered garden being selected for its colourful, water wise planting scheme. The plants used are a mix of Mediterranean, natives and succulents and will all thrive on very little water. The path is compacted limestone top dressed with summerstone fines.
As this garden has a northerly aspect, some deciduous trees have been included to maximise the sun in winter and to provide shade in summer. The garden will develop more character as these grow and mature. Trees add substantial value to a property. It is well worth including strategically placed trees for ambience, climate control and attracting wildlife.
